On the occasion of Prof. Robyn Woodward-Kron's visit, the IGPW invited national as well as international guests to a round table event on August 12, 2022 under the motto "Developing Careers and interprofessional learning of Health Professions Educators". The aim of the hybrid event was to get to know different master programs for Health Professions Educators in their structure, objectives and respective potentials.
Prof. Woodward-Kron presented the Master of Clinical Education of the University of Melbourne, Prof. Daniëlle Verstegen presented a Master Health Professions Education of the University of Maastricht, Prof. Matthias Siebeck presented the Master of Medical Education of the Ruprecht Karls University Heidelberg as well as a Master Health Professions Education of the Jimma University in Ethiopia and Prof. Michael Ewers spoke about the in-house Master Health Professions Education. All programs are innovative despite the difference in their target groups, focuses’ and in the career paths that graduates take afterwards.
This is exactly where the discussions took off after a lunch break. On the one hand, questions were asked about how the respective programs can promote careers and which paths need to be paved for this. On the other hand, the focus was on interprofessional learning. Here, among other things, it was discussed how interprofessionality can be implemented in the programs and which competencies are necessary for prospective teachers.
From the contributions, it became clear that on both topics some questions are still open and require in-depth reflection and treatment in the future. For example, the question of interprofessional competencies that teachers should have or research-oriented doctoral programs for graduates.
